PWiK Sp. z o. o. has been supplying water to the inhabitants of Kalisz since April 1936. In its 69-year history the company adopted various organizational forms, changing the scope and range of its operations. PWiK Sp. z o. o. has been operating in the current form of a limited liability company since 1 January 1992. The company′s mission is to ensure the production and supply of water and collection of sewage at a level specified by legal regulations, in accordance with customers′ expectations, and with care about health and safety and the natural environment. Besides, the company conduct activities in the area of laboratory tests of water and sewage, construction of water and sewage systems and connections, rental of building equipment and specialist vehicles, as well as design services.
The company conducts activities in the territory of the city of Kalisz, delivering water and collecting sewage, as well as selling water to the inhabitants of four neighbouring communities - Godziesze Wielkie, Nowe Skalmierzyce, Opatówek and Gołuchów.
PWIK Sp z o. o. has assets worth over PLN 120 million (gross). Currently, the share capital amounts to PLN 39.764 million and is divided into 39,764 shares owned exclusively by the City of Kalisz.
The investment strategy adopted resulted in a dynamic development of the company over the period of last 10 years. In this period, aiming to ensure the highest quality of services, PWIK Sp z. o. o. has invested over PLN 57 million. Thanks to this we own comparatively new assets. The average obsolescence of fixed assets amounts to 43.5%. Our water-supply network is 373.3 km long and it fully guarantees the delivery of water to all of city districts. Over 55 % of its length consists of pipelines and cross-connections less than 20 years old. The successive water-supply network modernization activities and the implementation of the cross-connection exchange programme result in a smaller number of failures (down from 600 failures in 1993 to 96 failures in 2004). The sanitary and combined sewerage systems are 212 km long, and all system operates on the basis of 15 sewage-pumping stations. About 80% of sanitary and industrial sewage from Kalisz is discharged through a gravity and pumping sewerage system to the sewage treatment plant in Kuchary, where sewage are treated in accordance with the water legal permit held by the operator of the sewage treatment plant. At present, thanks to the subsidy from EU Cohesion Fund, the suburban districts will receive their sewerage systems and the sewage disposal will be organised in that part of the city.
The production assignments of PWIK Sp. z o. o. are performed on the basis of 6 Jurassic water intakes, 2 Quaternary intakes and one infiltrational intake, ″Lis″. The entire output water is treated in 5 modern water treatment stations. The quality of water delivered through the municipal water supply network is fully in accordance with the national and EU standards.
The company has a microprocessor radio system for controlling and signalling the operation of water intakes, water and sewage pumping stations and water treatment plants in order to manage its assets and overlook the operation of distant facilities efficiently. This system makes it possible to control and operate the machinery and facilities located quite a distance away from the Central Dispatcher′s Office.
The analysis of the balance of current assets and capital indicates that the financial situation of the company has been good over the period of last 3 years. During that period the Company had full financial and paying capacity. Each year the Company generated profit from its business activities. The customer care and the policy pursued by the company owner result in the determination of the charges for water delivered and for sewage discharged at the lowest possible level. The price of one cubic metre of water produced by PWIK Sp z o. o. is among the lowest in Poland.
The constants pursuit of the high level of services provided and the care for building proper relationships between the owner, workers, customers and the residents of our city resulted in the company receiving the ″Business Fair Play″ certificate five times (in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004). In 2001 we won the Business Fair Play Golden Statuette - the highest award in this national Programme.
